In this ABC News app, you can easily access your mobile phone’s online services by signing in using your email address and password.
But with the advent of social media apps, you may be unaware that some services have privacy policies that could limit your access.
For example, the Australian Government’s mobile phone data retention scheme has an opt-in opt-out policy, meaning you can’t opt out of accessing your data by using your social media accounts or apps.
And the Privacy Act 2003 makes it illegal to interfere with a person’s data or access their personal information.
Here’s how to use your mobile devices’ services to access online services that can’t be accessed with an email address or password.
You can use your phone to access email and chat services If you use your iPhone, iPad or Android device to access an email or chat service, you’ll need to enter the email address of the service’s owner.
You’ll also need to provide your password.
If you’re signing in with a new account, you need to log in using the account you’re using, not the name you’ve used previously.
Your email address should match your phone number.

You won’t have access to information from apps that haven’t been approved by your service provider, and apps that have been approved may not allow you to send email.
For this reason, you don’t have to provide a phone number to access third-party services.
You should always be checking your service’s privacy policies.
For services that are part of the Australian Privacy Principles, you must give permission for your email account to be accessed by a third party.
For information about these rules, visit the Privacy Commissioner’s website.
For social media service providers: You’ll need an email provider’s password if you don´t have one.
If a social media app doesn’t allow you the ability to log into its account, use a different email account or contact your service providers to find out how to sign in.
